08-31-2010 - D. Jones: Our former teacher wins Emmy Award...
 
Miss Glynda Bates, our former Social Science teacher during our 8th grade year at Turner Junior High, recently won an Emmy for her technical work in TV news broadcasting in Washington, DC. She was presented her Emmy at the the 52nd annual Emmy awards on June 5, 2010. You can google Miss Bates' name along with "Emmy" and see pictures on the first few google hits. My congratulations go out to Miss Bates!

06-29-2010 - D. Jones: Carthage Country Club burns...
 
Last night, shortly before 10:00 PM, the Carthage Country Club burned. The building was a total loss. The Country Club was the site of our 15th Class Reunion in 1990 as well as our 30th Class Reunion in 2005. The loss of the Country Club narrows the playing field somewhat for future reunion & event locations in Carthage. The Country Club building, built in the 1960's will be sorely missed in Carthage.

I found an old B&W photo taken by the newspaper back in 1985 of our 1st class reunion. The link can be found on the main home page of this site. If you click on the picture, it will load a larger view. You can click on the FACE of anybody to see who it is. I'm sorry but I cannot identify everybody in the picture. I have the "unknowns" numbered 01-14. If you can identify any of these classmates, please email me or post a message. Also, if you see any mistakes, please let me know.

Mr. James Odell Poovey of "Poovey Photography" of Henderson passed away 03-19-2010. Mr. Poovey took our class pictures from grade school all the way up to our Senior year. He was 89 years old. Our prayers & condolences to Mr. Poovey and his family.

02-02-2010 - Mystery Photo Submissions
 
Several people have submitted guesses as to who they think the man & woman are in the "Who Is This" section of this site. Some of the guesses have been Coach Tatum & his wife, Mr. Oates, Mildred McCrary, Mrs. McLauren, Sarah Palin, etc...etc...sorry, but none of these are correct. I'll post the correct answer here someday. I was also just kidding about the winner being elected to work on the reunion committee too! If you guess the names of the people pictured, I assure you that you will NOT be asked to be on the reunion committee (if we do have a reunion in 2010), so feel free to keep guessing....I know it is a tough one, but the two people pictured were indeed part of our school lives for many years here in CISD...up until our 9th grade at Turner Jr. High. So keep guessing...

Word of this web site is slowly spreading amongst other classmates. I called CISD Alumni admin last year & talked to Mrs. Nancy Gregg (remember she taught French at CHS back in '75) & she was going to put a blurb in the next issue of the Alumni newsletter about our site. That issue is supposed to be mailed out in February to all Alumni members.

Myrita Collins Kruebbe's husband Jimmy dropped by the store today with contact sheets that were filled out by attendees of the 2005 reunion. I had email addresses of 17 more classmates. I sent an email out tonight to those 17 classmates informing them of this web site. Four of the email addies bounced as undeliverable. If any of you reading this are on Facebook, Twitter, My Space or any other social networking sites, please inform any classmates you know of about this site. I myself am a little behind the times as I have yet to set up a Facebook account or similar....I'm going to do that one of these days!

12-12-2009 - Updated Reunion 2005 picture page
 
I have image mapped the group photo of the class reunion held back in 2005. Now when the entire group photo loads in larger view, I mapped the image coordinates so that when you hold your mouse cursor over anyone's face, a text note will appear with the name of the person pictured. Just a minor tweak I added...nothing big..I will continue to work on site as I have time...once I get through Christmas season at work.

Charlie Allison dropped by the store today with "The Little Pine Burrs" from 1965-1968. I went through each of them and added 42 more names to the list. The current "Classmates" list is the most comprehensive one yet of everyone that we went to school with from 1963-1975. The only names I do not have will be the classmates from Turner School PRIOR to 1971 as I do not have Turner School annuals. If anyone has them or can add classmates from those years that attended Turner School prior to integration, please contact me. Thank you Charlie!

Tonight I took the 1964 Little Pine Burr, 1st grade class, and added 47 more names of classmates that were in the 1st grade with us at Libby. This was a major update to the classmates list. The only Little Pine Burrs I now lack are years 1965-1968, plus Turner School yearbooks as well.
